Saarland University of Applied Sciences Eligibility for Indian Students

htw saar filters Indian applicants on two axes: academic equivalence (via uni-assist and the APS certificate) and language proficiency for the program’s medium of instruction. Both must be documented before the deadline. No provisional admissions are issued.

Academic thresholds for Indian applicants:

• UG (Bachelor): Class XII at around 65 percent from CBSE, ICSE, or a state board, with the subject basket the program requires (Mathematics for engineering, English for International Business)
• PG (Master’s): Bachelor’s degree with 180 ECTS, at roughly 60 percent or a 2.9 German-scale average, with subject match to the master field
• International Management M.A. adds: minimum 60 ECTS in business or economics, 5 ECTS in business law, 10 ECTS in mathematics or statistics

htw saar English-Requirement Waiver for Indian Students

htw saar does not publish a general medium-of-instruction (MOI) waiver for Indian applicants. Class XII completed in English medium at a CBSE, ICSE, or state-board school does not, on its own, exempt B2 proof for English-taught programs. Applicants exempt from language proof are limited to nationals from Germany, Luxembourg, and Austria under the university’s current rules.

German-taught programs require DSH-2, TestDaF TDN 4, Goethe C1, or telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule. B1 German is enough for International Business and International Management, but only as a secondary language alongside the primary English requirement.

Saarland University of Applied Sciences Master’s Programs for Indian Students

htw saar runs 26 master’s tracks across four faculties: Business, Engineering, Architecture and Civil Engineering, and Social Sciences. Almost every master starts in Winter Semester (October). Only International Management M.A. is fully English-taught at the master level, while the rest are delivered in German with C1 proficiency required.

Saarland University of Applied Sciences Bachelor’s Programs for Indian Students

The bachelor catalog carries around 40 tracks across the four faculties. Two are delivered fully in English (Mechanical Engineering B.Eng. and International Business B.A.); the rest are German-taught and require DSH-2 or TestDaF TDN 4 as a floor. Standard duration for a UAS bachelor is 6 semesters (three years).

Reality check: If your German is below B2, only Mechanical Engineering B.Eng. and International Business B.A. are realistic UG options at htw saar. Every other bachelor requires C1 German for entry.

Saarland University of Applied Sciences Application Process

Every Indian applicant goes through two portals: uni-assist first (for academic equivalence and VPD), then the htw saar SIM portal for the actual application. Skipping the uni-assist step is not possible for Indian qualifications.

1. Get your APS certificate from the German Embassy, New Delhi. Processing takes three to twelve weeks and it is mandatory before uni-assist accepts your file.
2. Take your English test (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Cambridge) if the target program is English-taught. Book at least 12 weeks before the university deadline.
3. Register on uni-assist at uni-assist.de, upload transcripts, degree certificates, English or German language proof, APS certificate, and CV.
4. Pay the application fee of EUR 75 (around INR 8,182) on uni-assist for your first htw saar program; each additional program adds EUR 30 (around INR 3,273).
5. Receive your VPD from uni-assist within six weeks. The VPD converts your Indian grade to the German scale and confirms eligibility.
6. Create an SIM portal account at sim.htwsaar.de/bewerbung, upload the VPD, and submit the full application to htw saar.
7. Track your application status in SIM. Admission letters are issued around August for Winter Semester and February for Summer Semester.

Program-specific attachments may include a motivation letter, portfolio (for architecture), or work-experience proof (for part-time masters). Check your program’s SIM checklist before you upload.

Saarland University of Applied Sciences Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

htw saar does not issue conditional or provisional offers. Your file must be complete by the deadline, and the university reviews only after documents are locked. The decision arrives as a Zulassungsbescheid (admission letter) with clear enrollment instructions.

• Winter intake decisions: issued from mid-August for July 15 applicants
• Summer intake decisions: issued from mid-February for January 15 applicants
• Acceptance step: confirm your seat on SIM and submit enrollment documents by the date in your letter

For restricted programs (numerus clausus tracks like International Business and International Management), selection is grade-based on the German-scale average from your VPD. Germany Student Visa for Saarland University of Applied Sciences Indian Students

Once htw saar issues your admission letter, apply for a Type D National Visa (Student Visa) at the German Embassy in New Delhi or a Consulate General (Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata). Book the appointment through the Consular Services Portal at digital.diplo.de. Standard processing is six to twelve weeks, so schedule around August for an October intake. Health insurance, either statutory GKV or a certified private plan, must be arranged before enrollment. On arrival, register your address (Anmeldung) at the local Buergeramt within two weeks and convert your visa to a residence permit at the Auslaenderbehoerde before it expires.
