Paderborn University Application Deadlines

Paderborn University Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at Paderborn splits by level, and the German grading system runs inverted (1.0 is best, 4.0 is the pass line). The academic and English floors below come from the official Paderborn admission procedure and documents page.

• Bachelor’s general entry: Indian Class XII alone does not meet German university-entrance requirements. You must clear a Studienkolleg (one-year preparatory course) plus its Feststellungsprüfung (final qualifying exam) before applying, or complete one year at a recognised Indian university.
• Master’s academic floor: a relevant Bachelor’s with at least 180 ECTS and a final grade of 2.5 on the German scale, roughly 65 to 70 percent in Indian terms, or a top-35-percent rank in your graduating cohort.
• Master’s subject prerequisites: program-specific ECTS floors in the discipline. For MSc Computer Science, at least 20 ECTS each in Software Engineering and Theoretical Computer Science, plus 15 ECTS each in Computer Engineering and CS Mathematics.
• GRE requirement: MSc Computer Science, MSc Computer Engineering, and MSc Additive Manufacturing require a GRE Revised General score of at least 157 Quantitative and 4.0 Analytical Writing, or the digital Mastertest (dMat) as an alternative. Applicants with a Bachelor’s below German grade 1.8 (Indian equivalent above 80 percent) are exempt.

Paderborn accepts multiple English tests. Minimums for Master’s programmes are IELTS 6.5 (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT 80 (87 for MSc International Economics and Management), PTE Academic 75, Duolingo English Test 105, or Cambridge CAE at Grade B. German-taught Bachelor’s and Master’s require DSH-2 or TestDaF 4x4 in the four skills.

No blanket medium-of-instruction (MOI) waiver is published for Indian applicants. If your degree was fully taught and examined in English and your transcript states this explicitly, uni-assist may accept it on a case-by-case basis, but a test score remains the safer route.

Paderborn University Master’s Programs

Paderborn’s English-taught Master’s slate is small but sharply focused on engineering, computer science, and business economics. Paderborn University Bachelor’s Programs and Studienkolleg

Almost every Paderborn Bachelor’s is taught in German, and Indian Class XII on its own does not qualify for direct admission. The standard route is a one-year Studienkolleg at a partner institution, followed by the Feststellungsprüfung, before you apply to Paderborn via uni-assist. The Bachelor’s programmes below start each October and run six semesters (180 ECTS).

All German-taught Bachelor’s require DSH-2 or TestDaF 4x4 as proof of German at C1 level. Most Indian applicants achieve this through 18 to 24 months of intensive German at a Goethe-Institut or via the Studienkolleg’s own language block. 1. Register a free account on the uni-assist portal and select Paderborn University as your target under North Rhine-Westphalia.

3. Pay the application fee of EUR 75 (around INR 8,367) for your first course to uni-assist, plus EUR 30 (INR 3,347) for each additional programme in the same semester.
4. Post certified copies of Class XII marks, Bachelor’s transcripts, degree certificate, IELTS or TOEFL score card, CV, and passport bio page to uni-assist in Berlin.
5. Track your file on My assist. Once the Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD) is issued, Paderborn’s admissions office takes over.

• Conditional offers: common where GRE or additional ECTS proofs are pending; conditions must be cleared before enrolment.
• Deferrals: Paderborn does not usually grant deferrals. If you cannot start in the offered semester, reapply in the next cycle.

Enrolment (Immatrikulation) is completed either in person at the Student Service centre after arrival or by post before travelling. Only after enrolment can you register for lectures on PAUL, the university’s course-management system.

Uni Paderborn Documents Required

uni-assist runs a strict checklist. Missing or improperly certified documents are the single biggest cause of Indian applications being flagged incomplete. Prepare the following as certified copies (attested by a notary or the issuing institution).

• Passport: valid bio-data page with at least 18 months validity beyond programme start.
• Class X and Class XII marksheets and certificates: board originals attested and translated if not in English.

Certified translations into German or English are required for any document not originally in those languages. Uni-assist does not accept scanned uploads alone; hard-copy originals must reach Berlin before the deadline.

Paderborn does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Based on competitive-intake program patterns and cohort data across German public universities of similar size, the effective acceptance rate for competitive English-taught Master’s such as Computer Science and IEM is estimated at 35 to 45 percent. Open-admission Bachelor’s programmes in German admit substantially more, closer to 70 percent of qualified applicants.

Selectivity varies sharply by department. MSc Computer Science and MSc Computer Engineering carry additional GRE or dMat gatekeeping that filters roughly half of applicants before the academic review. MSc International Economics and Management restricts entry to the top 35 percent of Bachelor’s cohorts, a hard cap not a soft target.

Insider note: Paderborn sits in the middle band of German technical universities, with a ranking band of THE 601 to 800 globally. It is more accessible than TU Munich or RWTH Aachen for the same subject, so an Indian applicant with a Bachelor’s between 65 and 75 percent has a realistic shot at MSc CS if the GRE score is competitive.

Faculty of Business Administration and Economics decisions weigh Bachelor’s GPA rank heavily. Engineering and CS admissions treat GRE, subject ECTS, and English scores as roughly equal, so a weaker area can be offset by strength in another.

Germany Student Visa Process for Paderborn University Admits
