Witten/Herdecke University PhD Admissions for Indian Students

Witten/Herdecke offers two doctoral pathways. A traditional Dr. title with flexible timelines, and a structured Ph.D. programme with fixed start and end dates, coursework, and defined milestones. Fields cover economics (Dr. rer. pol.), philosophy and social sciences (Dr. phil.), medicine and dentistry, biomedicine, and nursing science.

Admission requires a recognised Master’s and a signed supervision agreement with a professor in the chosen department. Language of instruction depends on the supervisor. The Ph.D. Biomedicine and Ph.D. Nursing Science tracks accommodate English-speaking candidates. Doctoral fees vary sharply. Internal doctoral candidates pay nothing. External candidates in most departments pay €1,500 (₹1.64 Lakhs). Economics candidates pay €5,000 (₹5.45 Lakhs). Nursing Science pays €9,000 (₹9.81 Lakhs) spread across three years.
