AICTE launches B.Tech Electronics VLSI Design and Technology, Diploma in IC Manufacturing Program

New Delhi: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has embarked two latest courses B.Tech Electronics (VLSI Design & Technology) and Diploma in IC production as an effort to advance India's goals of becoming a semiconductor superpower.

The newly-launched courses may be chosen from any colleges, universities, or technical institutions that are connected with AICTE. These new courses are intended to provide several chances for Indian students in both domestic and foreign businesses.

According to a notice from the AICTE, "The VLSI industry is lucrative and resistant to automation. it will create a setting for the semiconductor ecosystem's establishment and expansion”.

The average starting salary for a fresher post at a VLSI company ranges from INR 10 LPA to INR 20 LPA, depending on the company, with an annual income of INR 14 LPA, according to AICTE, making these courses financially rewarding for students. However, a significant global company's typical annual wage for new hires ranges from INR 30 to INR 80 LPA.

The AICTE curriculum for the B.Tech in Electronics (VLSI Design and Technology) program includes the topics like introduction to digital systems labs, analogue electronics,IC Design & Technology, semiconductor device fundamentals, introduction to VLSI Design, analogue IC Design, static timing analysis, fabrication and characterization lab, introduction to CMOS processing, and physics of electrical engineering materials.

However, the diploma in IC manufacturing program will include an introduction to VLSI Fabrication, electronic devices and circuits semiconductor technology equipment maintenance, clean room technologies, familiarization with semiconductor fabs, and related foundry activities like foundry safety protocol and vacuum technology. It will also cover electronics system assembly or product design, semiconductor packaging and testing, renewable energy, and industrial automation.

Once the courses are updated on the AICTE portal, colleges, universities, and technical institutes affiliated with the AICTE can decide whether to offer them or not.

The curriculum follows the framework of the Semicon India programme, whose overall budget is INR 76,000 crore and which aims to strengthen India's ecosystem for the production of semiconductors and displays.

The Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi said, "We are heavily investing in skilling and training young Indians for the requirements of the 21st century."
