AICTE Releases Circular Regarding Lateral entry Admission to B.Tech Courses

AICTE has asked all the state government and universities to inform all the universities and colleges coming under them to follow the conditions mentioned in the notice regarding the lateral entry of diploma students to the B.Tech. course.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has formulated important instructions regarding the lateral admission of diploma students to B.Tech. courses. The council has informed that some of the AICTE institutions have denied highly qualified diploma students for lateral admission to various Engineering and Technology courses, following which they have released a circular.

The AICTE council stated,” as per the AICTE Approval Process Handbook for A/Y 2020-21 clause 1.3, there is no such restriction in the admission of Diploma students to Undergraduate Engineering & Technology courses under lateral entry."

Important Instructions by AICTE

The Clause I .3 (Viii) of APH AlY 2020-21, AICTE mentions various eligibility criteria for the lateral entry admission to the 2nd year of B.Tech. programme. It starts with "The Clause I .3(Viii) of APH AlY 2020-21 for the admission for Diploma Students into Engineering and Technology (VG Courses) under lateral entry is as..."

Passed Diploma examination with at least 45% marks (40% marks in case ol7 candidates belonging to reserved category) in ANY branch of Engineering and Technology.
Passed B.Sc. Degree from a recognized University as defined by UGC, with at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and passed 1012 examination with Mathematics as a subject.
Provided that the students belong to B.Sc. Stream, shall clear the subjects Engineering Graphics/ Engineering Drawing and Engineering Mechanics of the First-Year Engineering Programme along with the Second year subjects.
Provided that the students belonging to B.Sc. Stream shall be considered only after filling the supernumerary seats in this category with students belonging to the Diploma stream.
Passed D. Voc. Stream in the same or allied sector.
In the above cases, suitable bridge Courses, if required such as in Mathematics or basic Engineering foundation courses may be suitably designed and implemented.

The council also asked all the State Government/ Universities "to inform all the institutions falling under their jurisdiction to adhere to the condition mentioned above for the admission of diploma qualified students in Under Graduate courses as per the Approval Process Handbook Clause 1.3 for lateral entry admission."
