The All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has changed the duration of the MCA program from three years to two years. The change will be effective from the academic year 2020-2021.
The technical education regulator has asked all the higher education institutions to make the necessary changes as per the provisions contained in AICTE's Approval Process Handbook (APH) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) decision.
The AICTE circular released reads, "Hence the MCA course shall be of 2 years duration from 2020-21. In view of the above, necessary modification in the course duration of MCA may please be made in conformity with the UGC decision and provisions contained in AICTE APH."
The alteration in the MCA program duration was demanded several times, like other master programs approved by the UGC. In December 2019, UGC approved the proposal for reducing the duration of MCA to two years.
