Andhra Pradesh Schools are partially opening from 21 September 2020, for students from 9th to 12th standards. Students, teachers, and schools have been instructed to follow the latest COVID-19 guidelines during class. Read details below.
Andhra Pradesh schools have begun online and regular classes for Classes 9th and above from September 21 with the option to attend online classes from their homes or to visit the school to attend regular classes. The state government has permitted the students to continue their online classes with their parents’ permission.
According to Unlock 4.0 Guidelines for reopening schools, the central government announced schools to start classes from 21 September 2020. Students can attend regular classes or connect online according to their convenience. The decision should be endorsed by their parents or guardians in writing.
Schools in Andhra Pradesh and other states in the country were closed from March 24, 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Board Exams had also been canceled in different states this year. Many states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu refused to re-open their schools due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the states.
SOPs for School Reopening in Andhra Pradesh
Standard operating procedure (SOP) has been issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs for conducting classes in Andhra Pradesh State. The schools are permitted to open for 50% of the non-teaching and teaching staff of the school.

Students of classes 9th and above can take classes under parental consent for seeking guidance from teachers only. The ministry stated that schools must ensure that online classes and virtual sessions continue during the period.
The student-teacher interaction must be organized in a Staggered manner. The key points of SOPs guidelines for conducting regular classes are given below:
- Teachers and faculty members will ensure that students wear masks throughout the class.
- Sharing items among students are restricted inside the school campus.
- Gatherings outside the school during intervals is strictly permitted.
- The school swimming pools and cafeteria would remain closed for now.
- Activities that can lead to over-crowded situations at school (such as assembly, sports activities, etc) are permitted for the time being.
- A proper distance should be maintained during activities in common school areas.
- School activities need to be done staggeringly during different time slots.
- Students must follow adequate physical distancing outside and inside the school premises.
- Disinfections of classroom premises should be done regularly.
- Seating arrangements are to be done with at least 6 feet distance between chair desks etc.
