BCI Directs Varsities to Promote All Law Students, Except Final Year Students

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has asked universities to promote all law students, except the final year students. The students are to be promoted on the basis of previous year marks and this year internal assessment.

In a missive sent to Vice-Chancellors and registrars of all the law varsities and the principals, deans and head of departments of all the legal education centers of the country, BCI secretary Srimanto Sen has sent fresh guidelines for promotion of law students to the next year and also the criteria for law exams following the coronavirus crisis, said Professor RK Chaubey, Dean (law) of Allahabad University

The final year students of 3 year and 5 year courses may be allowed to appear in online examinations, as directed by BCI. However, an alternative strategy must be adopted by the universities, for the students who will not be able to appear in online examinations.

The letter by BCI directs the universities to conduct the end semester examinations within a month of reopening of the colleges.

BCI has asked all the universities to adhere to COVID-19 protocols. All the classrooms and exam halls should be sanitized from time to time and social distancing should be followed.
