The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has sent a proposal to the state government to reduce the syllabus in the wake of COVID-19. The decision is still pending at the department of education.
The matter has been referred to as the expert group from the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Additional secretary of the Department of Education, Giriwar Dayal Singh divulged that the proposal to reduce the syllabi by 30% has been received and the brainstorming work by experts is in progress.

Earlier this year CBSE, CISCE, and the state board of UP, Goa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat had already announced the reduction in syllabi by 30%. Besides the reduction, CBSE has still instructed the schools to explain the topics that have been removed so that there is the ease in understanding the related topics.
Dayal Singh also said, "The effort is to cover 100% syllabus of class 10 and class 12, however, if the syllabus is to be reduced, then a decision should be taken without affecting the students' preparedness for future exams ".
COVID-19 and the flood have disrupted the education in Bihar schools, with poor internet connectivity and a huge population of 41.4% living below the poverty line in Bihar. The assembly elections are also due in October-November, which will further impact the school education in Bihar.
The officials are also concerned that even if the schools open at a later date, then it will be difficult to engage classes and cover the syllabus. The forms for board exams are already filled, but it is a fact that education has been impacted and would continue to be impacted, said Dayal Singh. The last date to fill intermediate forms is August 27 and for class 12 it is August 28.
