CBSE to shed light on 'Olabs' to facilitate Science Experiments in Virtual Mode

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is attempting to bring back its focus to ‘Olabs’ that was launched by the Board in 2015.

After its launch, Olabs was not successful in gathering the attention of students due to the unhindered availability of offline resources. The Olabs were set up by CBSE to facilitate online science experiments for students.

The Board has the opinion that the current COVID-19 ridden scenario will help attract the attention of students who are unable to attend offline classes or practical sessions due to concerns for their health.

Online classes are already being conducted by CBSE. However, there has been a lack of practical demonstration and execution of the subject matter that requires it. Olabs is planning to help students learn more efficiently by allowing them to perform science experiments in virtual mode.

Teachers had already begun their training in July to equip themselves with sufficient knowledge and experience to further introduce the concept to students during the online classes.

This is considered to be an important move by the Board since the practicals carry a weightage of 30 marks which is a huge chunk of the entire score. The teachers and students cannot afford to miss out on practical learning if they wish to ensure a good scholastic record.

Students from classes 9 to 12 will be able to conduct and practice various experiments in departments ranging from chemistry, physics, mathematics, and biology.

There will be no limitation as to how times a student can perform one particular experiment because of unlimited virtual resources available to them.
