Justice Jayant Nath instructed Delhi University for changing a student’s name without asking to submit the changed records from CBSE.
A student from Delhi University of class 12 sought High Court’s help for getting admission into the institution without changing the CBSE records. Changing of CBSE records will be an act of misplaced requirement and cannot be accepted by the relevant parties.
The plea was observed by Rayaan Singh, Hindu college student, who faced the same issue when he had to change his name to Rayaan Chawla in his DU records.
As per the DU regulations, if the student has to undergo any changes in the name it has to first get approved by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Rayaan Chawla had sought help from the High Court as well but his plea was not considered because the passing year was 2018 when his parents got separated which gave ample of time to get the records changed from CBSE Board.
In order to avoid confusion between the DU records and CBSE Boards records, the Delhi High Court ordered that the passing year of 10th and applying for colleges after two years is a huge gap and cannot agree with DU to change the CBSE records.
In view of that, Justice Nath informed that law would not require petitioners to perform impossible acts.
“The change of name is with effect from August/September 2019 i.e. much after the Class 10th and 12th certificates issued by CBSE, DU cannot in these peculiar facts and circumstances insist that the student should also get his name changed in the records of CBSE/in the Class 10th and 12th certificates,” said Justice Nath.
The directives of Justice Nath were clear for DU to change the student’s name in the present degree for future records and this does not require the student to change his records from CBSE Boards.
