COMEDK 2020 to be postponed after students express concerns
Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka’s (COMEDK), which had decided to conduct the Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) examination on June 27, 2020 has now confirmed that it will postpone the examination. The decision comes in light of the concerns raised by students on the risks they will have to take to appear for the exam.

The exam was scheduled initially to be conducted on May 10, 2020 but had to be postponed due to COVID-19 lockdown. The application dates were extended until May 2020.
Dr S Kumar, Executive Secretary, COMED-K said that they are aware of the difficulties that the students will have to undergo to appear for the examination if it will be held on June 27, 2020.
“The unforeseen situation put in front of us because of the pandemic is new. We are seriously considering the difficulties by students in states where they can’t travel even to their exam centres. A decision that will benefit all the stakeholders will be taken shortly,” he said confirming that the exam will be postponed.

He also assured that they are taking all the measures to guarantee social distancing at all exam centres. "We will be using 50%of the centres' capacity for it. We are working for it on 418 centres, in 282 cities," Kumar said.

Addressing another issue about the fake websites of COMEDK, he said he had also received more than 300 emails saying that they fell prey to the fake COMEDK website and wanted their applications to reconsidered. “We will also be addressing this issue shorty, in a day or two,” he said adding that the authorities had filed police complaints against the said websites and taken all necessary actions.

Students had expressed shock and despair over the exam date fixed to June 27, 2020. Hashtags like #PostPoneComedK were widely shared on Twitter this week and students had shared how it was risky to hold the important entrance exam in midst of the peak pandemic. "What if we fall ill when we go to write COMEDK and are unable to appear for other competitive exams?" asked a student.
