Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwathnarayan, who also holds higher education, IT & BT, Skills Development Portfolios, has announced that the state will begin the academic year for Graduate Colleges in the state starting on September 01, 2020, with online classes, and then in October offline (in-person) classes.

In a series of tweets, the Minister said, "We've decided to use the online medium to get the ball rolling overall academic activities from next month, as we're going to have to do a few degree exams in September."

Assuring that the Karnataka government was working with the sole aim of ensuring a bright future for students, Ashwathnarayan said, "As soon as the academic year begins, the final year exams will be scheduled for all undergraduate, graduate and engineering students. Backlog examinations will also be carried out accordingly.

If the government proceeds with the plan, the state is likely to be the first in the country to re-open in-class and in-person coaching. Usually, the academic year for state colleges begins in June, but this year has been delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
