Delhi HC Asks UGC- Can final year exams be based on MCQs/ Open choices/assignments? 

The Delhi High Court asked University Grants Commission (UGC) on July 22, 2020, if final year examinations can be conducted on the basis of MCQs, Open choices, Assignments, and Presentations?

Justice Pratibha M Singh interrogated UGC to explain the import of its guidelines issued in April. The guideline mentions the type of examination that can be adopted by a college to conduct the final year examinations.

As asked UGC has to come up with a response and the further hearing is listed on July 24, 2020.

In the last hearing, UGC responded that the guideline does not permit internal assessment for evaluating the final year students, as this may put the credibility of the system at the question in the near future.

The High Court also heard a plea challenging Delhi University's decision to hold an Open Book Examination (OBE). In response to which DU said that they are heeding the UGC guidelines, which mentions holding final year examinations mandatorily.
