Delhi University to Conduct Open Book Examinations for Final Year PG Students
Delhi University in an official notification has asked its stakeholders to prepare the datesheet for final semester/ term/ year postgraduate students.
Earlier on May 14, 2020, Delhi University had also notified for the provision of Open Book Examinations (OBE) to be adopted as an alternative mode of exams for final semester/term/year students, if the present situation does not appear to be normal in view of COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown situations.
The official circular also stated that all the concerned officials have to propose the datesheet keeping in mind the guidelines set for conducting the postgraduate final semester/term/year examinations.
The officials should also abide by the general guidelines and preparations of question papers notification released for Open Book Examination (OBE).
DU has also asked the heads and deans of different departments, faculties and centers to send the datesheet to the Examination Branch by June 4, 2020.
In a survey-cum-referendum conducted by the DUTA, almost 85% of the DU students have voted against the administration's decision of conducting Open Book Examination.
Delhi University Teachers Association has also demanded that the university must explore an alternative measure, as OBE is a method of discrimination against those students who access books, notes and online resources. DUTA also added that the Open Book Examination does not take care of many students, especially differently-abled students.
Although the University claims that the guidelines issued to all the heads of the department stated that the mode of examination will not be online and with minimal internet usage, only for downloading and uploading purposes.
