DSEJ, AIF Launched ‘Girls4Tech’ Program for 100 Government Schools in Jammu

Jammu: Directorate of School Education, Jammu (DSEJ) has associated with American India Foundation (AIF) to roll out ‘Girls4Tech’ program for classes 6th to 8th in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts.

The main objective of ‘Girls4Tech’ program is to create problem solvers and introduce a range of careers in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The award-winning ‘Girls4Tech’ Programme is being executed in 3 districts of Jammu region.

American India Foundation will hold online training sessions for girls under the program. About 10,000 girls from 100 government schools will be benefited from this program.

The Directorate of School Education’s Counselling Cell will be supervising the initiative. The main objective of creating an effective STEM learning environment is as follows:

Encouraging cooperation and collaboration among students.
Increasing the capacity of government school teachers on STEM.
Enhancing learning outcomes for girls through modern Technology and Teaching Learning Materials (TLM).
Providing teachers’ and schools’ with relevant teaching-learning materials.
Exposing girls to the world-class technology curriculum.
Sharpening girls about cybersecurity.

The director of (DSEJ), Anuradha Gupta elaborated on the initiative stating, “Girls’ participation and awareness in STEM-related careers in India is not up to the mark and with the fast-moving economy”.

She further added that it is crucial to provide equal opportunities for girls in education. To attain the objective of career and vocational guidance integrated with the STEM approach will be effective for a significant amount of time.

Romesh Kumar Gupta, Head of Appreciating Guidance and Counselling Cell said that the Girls4Tech program will bring rural girls at par with their urban counterparts.
