DU Admission 2020: 57,0000+ Registrations in 24 Hours; Online Verification Through Schools-shared Results

On Saturday dated 21 June 2020, Delhi University (DU) commenced the online registration process for all its undergraduate and postgraduate courses. 

Amid the uncertainty about CBSE exams and results, the registration window of DU official portal went live from 5 pm onwards. Students can register till July 4, however, details can be updated until cutoffs are announced in August.

DU Admissions 2020 portal will be reopened for uploading marks once CBSE results are out.

DU Registrations 2020 Reaching New Heights Everyday

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi University observed 25,889 registrations in its various courses in just 4 hours of Day-1. As per reports, by 9 pm on Saturday, registration trends reached 5,889 in PG courses, 19,542 UG courses and 457 in PhD programs. 

Reports shared by Delhi University officials suggest that within the first 24 hours over 57,000 applications in UG, PG and Delhi University PhD programmes were received. 

As of now, 75,000 applicants have registered with the varsity through its admission portal. A detailed breakdown reveals 57,312 UG applications, 18,837 in PG and 2,071 in PhD courses. As per Shobha Bagai, Dean (Admissions), Delhi University has introduced two new PG courses, Masters in Journalism and Masters in Biophysics with no new courses for undergraduate level.

New Wave in DU Admission 2020 Process

Delhi University has modified its conventional admission process for certain subjects. For the first time, Extra-Curricular Activity (ECA) category admission has excluded trials owing to social distancing norms. Only NSS and NCC admissions will take place through the ECA category. 

For Music (Hons) admissions, DU applicants have to upload a music video on youtube and share the link with the department. Shortlisting will be based on uploaded videos followed by online interaction.

Scraping off trials, B.Sc Physical Education admission will give weightage to entrance exam scores and sports proficiency. For changing streams, science students opting for BA courses will not face percentage deduction (around 2.5% on best of 4) as practised earlier. 

An annexure will be released shortly by DU stating the same, as boards like CBSE have stopped differentiating between streams.

As Open House is closed, DU will conduct webinars to solve queries regarding registration on June 23. A Delhi University helpdesk was active 10 days prior to the registration process. A second webinar will be held before releasing cutoffs after receiving clarity on CBSE exams.

Schools to Share Class 12 Results for DU Admission Verification

Early in May, Delhi University had sent request mails to the educational boards across the country to share students’ Class 12 results for online documents/details verification. It has direct access to the CBSE result portal but there are several exams still pending.

In view of the ‘Ankiv Baisoya’ controversy last year, DU has made forensic scrutiny of mark sheets of students a mandatory exercise. As of now, only NIOS and Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) have agreed on this proposition. The university is hopeful that other boards will follow suit. 

Bagai urged DU affiliated colleges not to impose added eligibility criteria on any course but 1% concession for female students will continue this year as well.
