DU: Less Students Turn Up for Online Open Books Exams At CSCs

The Joint Service Centers that facilitate the Delhi University's online open-book exams here said that only a handful of students have access to the service and most of them have been confronted with issues while uploading their answer sheets.

Common Service Centers (CSCs) have been set up to help students who do not have the proper infrastructure to perform online exams.

The CSE Academy, which is engaged by the Ministry of Electronics and Technology, has an agreement with Delhi University to conduct open-book exams, which will be held for the first time in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Northwest District official said that most students have smartphones and are taking part in the exams from their respective homes.

"Approximately seven to eight students have arrived. If they have difficulty uploading the answer sheet, the mail option is there," he added.

In the Southwest District, however, the official said that students were not confronted with any such issue. In Shahdara, only 10 students visited three-four CSCs on Monday, the first day of the exams, another official said. He said the centres were opened before 7:30 a.m. when the first exam shift started.

"We are getting the exams conducted and even getting queries from students who want to visit the CSC for taking their exams. The students faced issues while uploading answer sheets and we helped them in emailing them," he added.

An official at the Mayur Vihar Phase Joint Service Center said that all preparations for the online open-book exams were in place, but no students came in the first two days of the exams.

He said the centre had also spread a word in the area about the ability of the CSC to facilitate the examinations.

In the face of opposition from students and teachers who have been demanding that the exams be cancelled and that the students be assessed on the basis of their performance in previous semesters and internal assessments, the online exams began on August 10, 2020.
