On 7 August, the Delhi High Court had passed an order that put in place a procedure for issuing degree certificates online by Delhi University. This was to ensure that a delay in printing degree certificates does not hamper students who need them at short notice.
An online platform called www.digicerti.du.ac.in had been created by the university to allow students to apply for digital certificates.

However, despite the direction from the court, it appears that students have not been issued digital certificates by Delhi University.
The court had directed DU to ensure that the certificates are issued in a week from the time of registration. However, on 2 September, a law student complained that in spite of having graduated from Shri Ram College of Commerce, DU in 2017 and applying for a digital certificate, he had not received one. He had applied for a certificate on 14 August.
The student said that the university was adamant about the physical submission of a hard copy of the application.
The high court directed the university to submit data related to the students who had applied online for digital certificates and the number of digital certificates that had been issued. It also directed the Joint Director of Delhi University Computer Centre to join the proceedings by video conference on 7 September.
The high court also said that there was no permissibility for DU to insist on the physical submission of documents, as that would be contrary to the order given on 7 August.
