Delhi University to launch two new five-year integrated LLB programmes in the upcoming academic year, a senior university official announced on Tuesday.
New Delhi: In order to deliver a "more affordable and high-standard legal education, Delhi University aims to launch two five-year integrated LLB programmes in the upcoming academic year, a senior university official announced on Tuesday. In the beginning, 102 students will be admitted to each section of these courses, which include the Bachelor of Arts-LLB and the Bachelor of Business Administration/Bachelor of Commerce-LLB.
Giving more information on the two new programmes, DU officials stated, "While the Bachelor of Business Administration/Bachelor of Commerce-LLB (BBA/BCom-LLB) programme will offer a variety of courses (papers) in business, management, and economics disciplines, the Bachelor of Arts-LLB (BA-LLB) programme will offer at least three arts disciplines, such as political science, sociology, and economics, in addition to the courses in law".
“The NCT's legal education institutions are either overly expensive, of poor quality, or both. Access to high-quality legal education is so difficult for young people. It was decided that the university should launch five-year integrated legal programmes in its centenary year that will be of a high standard and more accessible”, the official said.
Up until recently, the law school offered a three-year LLB, an LLM (both full- and part-time), and a PhD in Law. After receiving approval from the statutory organisations Academic Council and Executive Council, the university intends to submit an application to the Bar Council of India seeking authorization to begin the five-year integrated LLB curricula.
The representative was a member of the group that were established to create these courses. According to him, admittance to the new courses will be determined by the CLAT 2023 results.
