He added that the work will start in the following year with a goal of having the new East Campus in Surajmal Vihar, the Campus will be ready by 2026.

According to DU's vice chancellor, "Over the coming several years, Delhi University intends to renovate its whole infrastructure for a cost of Rs 1,718 crore". The North Campus and the South Campus are the two college campuses now under the control of the University of Delhi.

When the then-pro-vice-chancellor PC Joshi first mentioned the possibility of developing a campus in East Delhi in order to lessen the administrative burden on the existing two campuses and to create more opportunities for higher education, the expansion idea was first floated in December 2020.

Positive reactions were sparked by this revelation, particularly from East Delhi-based DU colleges. The Delhi University also proposed to construct a West Campus in Roshanpura, adjacent to Najafgarh, to serve students from rural Delhi and Haryana.

There are currently no plans to develop a West Campus, the VC shot back. The following statements regarding the development of the East Campus were made by Mr. Singh in an interview with the Press Trust of India.

The Vice Chancellor also emphasises the usefulness of building a new campus by pointing out how it would facilitate the organisation of administrative tasks, the introduction of new courses, and expansion throughout the city. He placed a lot of emphasis on their plans to introduce law programmes on the new campus and encourage entrepreneurship.
