The President of FORDA, Aviral Mathur respects the SC's decision to continue the NEET UG 2024 counselling process but also acknowledges potential impacts on students due to the re-exam.
New Delhi: Aviral Mathur, the President of the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (known as FORDA) and MAMC RRC recently addressed various issues within the NEET UG controversy. He explained his thoughts on the NEET UG 2024 paper leak, grace marks, re-exam, re-ranking, investigation into NEET UG, NEET UG 2024 counselling etc.

- He emphasized that grace marks should not be a part of any national-level entrance examination. The Supreme Court's decision to revoke them was appropriate.
- He believes the problem stems from the offline nature of the examination. He suggested that an online format could prevent such issues. The Supreme Court is expected to take appropriate measures against the allegations.
- The NEET UG 2024 re-exam could lead to a shift in rankings which can affect the counselling process and college allotment processes.
- Dr. Mathur suggested that any agency challenging the NTA should have greater credibility like the CBI to ensure a fair investigation.
- He respects the court's decision to continue the counselling process but at the same time, he also acknowledged potential impacts on students due to the re-exam.
- Dr. Mathur sees potential in the NExT exam to offer deserving opportunities to PG medicos if implemented correctly, despite some points of contention.
- He opposed that admissions based on Plus 2 marks alone, advocating for a national-level entrance test to ensure equality. He suggested that state boards should align their syllabus with NCERT for fair competition.
- According to him, time-bound sections are acceptable to match global education standards but stress the need for provisions allowing students to revisit and correct answers during exams to reduce stress.
Dr Mathru also addressed current problems faced by Medical Students. He emphasized that laws against violence toward medicos and better mental health care, including regulated duty hours are required. He suggested that a minimum and uniform bond policy for UG, PG, and SS students should be there. Dr. Mathur also emphasized the need for health coverage for medical students due to their exposure to severe health risks. He further argued for equitable maternity leave benefits for female medical students, ensuring they receive adequate remuneration and support during their leave without extended work periods.
