The Maharashtra Education Department has announced that there will be no increase in the school fee for the academic year 2020-2021. The department has also stated that schools should not force the parents to pay the complete school fee in a single go.
Shiv Sena MLA from Thane District in Maharashtra has also written to Maharashtra Education Minister demanding a waiver of six months in school fees, keeping in mind the economic problems faced by people due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Due to lockdown in the country many families are suffering financial losses and paying the school fee will be an extra burden on them.
Maharashtra MLAs have asked the Education Minister to make a quick decision on the school fee issue. Other authorities in the state also believe that providing a waiver in the school fee will help the parents.
The Education Department of Maharashtra has stated that parents must not be forced to pay the remaining school fee of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic year at a single time but they should be given monthly/ quarterly options to pay the school fees. As per the earlier orders, schools cannot force the parents to pay the fees if they are not able to pay the fee and schools are not allowed to dismiss these students.
However many parents have complaints on the issue and the government has asked the department to look into the matter and resolve it.
