The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has decided to reduce the syllabus by 30% for students in Class 9 to 12 amid pandemic. The reduction in syllabus is applicable for the academic year 2020-21.
GSHSEB had been holding several meetings with all the concerned personnel on July 23, August 20, September 11 regarding the syllabus reduction. Later on September 29, the officials decided to rationalise the syllabus for classes 9 to 12.

One of the parents in Gujarat commented on the decision taken by GSHSEB, “This is the best decision by the government so far. It will be very difficult to complete the whole syllabus by teaching one subject each day through online classes.” Now, Students can prepare well for the board exams.
In a meeting was held in the presence of minister Bhupendrasingh Chudasama and the following decisions were taken.
- The final term-end examination will be conducted in the month of May 21, 2021 for class 10th and 12th and for class 9th and 11th, the final term-end examination will be held in June 2021.
- Considering the fact that schools are shut since March, syllabus has been reduced to 30% however, topics constituting 30% of the syllabus will be taught by the teacher so that students will be able to prepare for competitive exams.
- The decision to reduce the syllabus was taken to reduce the stress for students and eventually it will help them to prepare better for their board exams.
- The topic that has been reduced will be sent to the district education officer, who will inform the schools regarding the same. Moreover, the board will also upload the information on the official website.
