AHMEDABAD: Skill development was the most significant thing that happened during the three-month lockdown.

a 25% jump in professionals pursuing distance learning courses from various prestigious institutes is observed this year when compared to the last few years.

Ayyan Karmakar, a 31-year-old working professional said that he always wants to join an IOS certification course but the busy working schedule would not allow him.

In the three-month lockdown, he got enrolled for an IOS 14001 Compliance course with a Mumbai based SGS Institute. Now, he is so hopeful that this environmental management course will help him to grow professionally.

Covid 19 Lockdown: Skill Development Program Highlights

There are many stories of working professionals, like Ayyam Karmakar, who have joined all enhancement programs for better career prospects after lockdown.

Covid 19 Lockdown: The Perfect Timing

Professionals find the lockdown period as the perfect timing for skill enhancement.

Prof. M Mallikarjun, director of Faculty of Management, Nirma University said that they have launched the EDP program from October 11.

The specialized program offered in operations management is offered in online mode due to covid 19 and more geographical diverse students have joined it.

Open Universities have witnessed a huge percentage of admissions. Admissions in IGNOU have increased 10% to 50% compared to last year and BAOU got 50000 admissions since March which is 50% more than last year.

Premier Institutes like MICA also have witnessed a positive impact on admissions. Anita Basalingappa, Chairperson for online programs at MICA said that for the online programs launched in July, they had increased the number of batches to accommodate students.

Dr. JM Vyas, Vice-Chancellor of National Forensic Science University ( NFSU ) said that they had a huge demand for the short term courses in Forensic Nursing, Forensic Odontology, Nano-toxicology, DNA Analysis, and Cyber Forensic.

Pro. Nigal Dave, Director of School of Liberal Studies at PDPU, said that even their faculty members have joined courses offered by MIT-JEWEL.

It not only adds value to the employee but also for the organization. Online courses enable learners to get a good quality education without going to foreign locations, said Dave.
