High Schools Academic session in Goa likely to begin in September, Syllabus to be Reduced

The Goa education department will start the new academic session from September this year. 

The annual academic session in Goa typically begins in June, but this year it has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, the education department of the state was hoping to start the academic year from 15 August. However, in view of the current situation, the authorities are hoping that at least by September schools should be able to resume their sessions by September.

When classes do start, it will be in a staggered manner. High school students would start classes first since they would be more capable of observing social distancing norms.

Schools have been asked to begin online classes for students, but due to connectivity issues, the number of students taking such classes is few. The government has instructed that teachers should assist students who are unable to take classes online, with the Chief Minister of the state averring that online classes were not compulsory.

Meanwhile, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has decided to reduce the syllabus for the new academic year by 28 to 30 percent. If schools take more time to reopen, the syllabus could be reduced further.
