IGNOU launches new certificate course on solid waste management to boost a holistic, scientific and well-planned strategy for environmental management.

Waste management today involves not only the collection and transport of waste but also treatment, disposal and recycling. The development of a well-informed and trained workforce is therefore of fundamental importance in dealing with these issues.
Moreover, as an emerging economy, India is at its peak of development and consumerism. In view of this, the generation of waste is expected to multiply. There is a strong need for experts in this field who can manage waste generated from industrial development projects, mining, housing, urban areas, etc.
Therefore, given the current scenario and future needs, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is offering waste management certification programs. This program provides an overview of the state of solid waste management, including key elements of the waste management system, such as environmental, social, financial and institutional aspects. Learners will be able to understand the challenges of waste management and to learn about appropriate and sustainable solutions, including appropriate waste management policy issues.
