IIM Kozhikode Sets Record with 66 Percent Women in Flagship MBA Batch 2026

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) has announced record gender diversity in its 30th flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) batch. The institute admitted 329 women out of 499 students to the flagship PGP for 2026-28. This takes female representation to 66 percent. It is the highest ever share for any IIM flagship MBA cohort. The new batch was formally inducted on July 3, 2026, at the Kozhikode campus.

Across all three full-time MBA programs, IIMK welcomed 599 students for the 2026-28 term. The institute also inducted 99 scholars into its Doctoral Programme in Management. Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIMK, presided over the induction ceremony. Mr. Raghu Polisetty, Senior Managing Director at Accenture, served as the Chief Guest.

The Three Full-Time MBA Programmes at IIMK

IIMK currently runs three full-time MBA programmes at its Kerala campus. The flagship two-year PGP is the largest and most sought after. The PGP in Finance is a specialised MBA aimed at banking and financial services careers. The PGP in Liberal Studies and Management pairs management training with humanities coursework.

Together, these three streams admitted 599 students this year. Overall women representation across the streams stands at 63 percent. This is also the highest overall figure the institute has recorded across its MBA offerings.

Year-on-Year Shift in Women Representation

The 30th batch marks the sharpest single-year jump in female enrolment at IIMK. The previous cohort had already crossed the halfway mark for women candidates.

Batch Flagship PGP Intake Women Representation
29th Batch (2025-27) 489 students 55 percent
30th Batch (2026-28) 499 students 66 percent

The women share climbed by 11 percentage points in a single admissions cycle. Overall MBA gender diversity has moved from 51 percent to 63 percent in one year. This places IIMK ahead of every other IIM on gender balance.

Academic Background of the New Cohort

The 30th batch also continues the drift away from an all-engineering profile. Non-engineering graduates now form 57 percent of the flagship PGP. Last year, the figure stood at 53 percent. Students from commerce, arts, science, and professional backgrounds are entering the classroom in larger numbers.

Sharp Growth in the Doctoral Programme

The 99-scholar doctoral cohort marks a sharp jump from the previous batch. The 2025-27 doctoral batch had 31 scholars, then IIMK’s largest ever. This year’s intake has more than tripled in size. The programme runs full-time and covers research areas across finance, marketing, strategy, and operations.

A First for the IIM System

No IIM has ever crossed the 66 percent mark for women in its flagship PGP. The 30th batch of IIMK sets a fresh benchmark for gender diversity in Indian management education.

What This Means for Future MBA Aspirants

The record intake signals a shift in how top MBA classrooms are shaped. It reflects both stronger applications from women candidates and diversity weightage during shortlisting. Aspirants preparing for the IIMK PGP 2027-29 cycle can expect similar policy design in the coming season.

Female CAT takers may find the shortlisting cutoffs friendlier at IIMK than at some peer IIMs. Non-engineering candidates also stand to gain from the widening academic mix. The 2026-28 admissions policy already carried marks for gender and academic diversity.

Keep an Eye On

Watch for the IIMK PGP 2027-29 admissions policy release later this year. The CAT 2026 registration window is also expected to open by August.
