IIM Lucknow Hosts G20 University Connect Session Preparing for the 2030 G20 Summit; Check Details Here

New Delhi: In view of the forthcoming 2030 G20 Summit under India's leadership, the Indian Institute of Management, IIM Lucknow has organized the G20 University Connect Session on August 10, 2023, in partnership with the Research and Innovation System (RIS) for Developing Countries and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India.

This session was preceded by various college events such as the G20 Quiz, Article Writing Competition, Model G20 Summit, and Pottery Making Competition. These activities held at IIM Lucknow aimed to engage young individuals in initiatives related to the upcoming summit.

The University Connect Session commenced with the screening of the official G20 video introducing India's Presidency. The video highlighted the pride and privilege associated with this opportunity for our nation. It also shed light on this year's theme, "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (One Earth, One Family, One Future).

 The purpose of the University connect was to foster insightful discussions on global economic challenges and opportunities while facilitating a fruitful exchange of knowledge to guide the national youth. The event was graced with the presence of some esteemed speakers, who enlightened the students with their views on the Indian presidency of the 18th meeting of the G20 nations.

The aim of the University Connect initiative was to encourage meaningful dialogues concerning global economic challenges and opportunities. It sought to facilitate a valuable exchange of knowledge, serving as a guiding light for the nation's youth. Distinguished speakers graced the event, offering their insights into the Indian presidency of the 18th G20 summit. 

Inaugurating the event by expressing her gratitude to RIS and MEA for the opportunity to host the University Connect, Prof. Archana Shukla, Director of IIM Lucknow, highlighted hthe significance of collaborative efforts among member nations in addressing issues related to sustainability, energy, climate, security, and peace. 

She also proudly highlighted the alignment of IIML's motto with the national objective of nurturing socially responsible leaders, motivating students to cultivate a global perspective.

The lecture series was inaugurated with an address by Mr. Sanjay Bhattacharyya, the Secretary of MEA, Govt. of India, and former ambassador to Switzerland, Turkey, and Egypt. He provided insights into the inception of the G20, India's focal points during its Presidency, and the role of the youth in this global discourse. 

Mr. Bhattacharyya acknowledged the current era of transformation and disruptive change worldwide, underscoring that our present actions will determine our future trajectory. He outlined the nation's seven priorities for the 2030 agenda, including climate financing, food security, and expediting the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Subsequently, Dr. Anand Maheshwari, Former IPS Officer of 1984 and Director General of Central Reserve Police Force, delivered a valuable address. He offered his interpretation of management as the art of handling "men" and "technology," emphasizing the significance of adapting to the blended existence of online and offline information sources in today's world. 

Guiding the youth on leveraging G20 discussions, he encouraged them to glean insights from SWOT analyses of G20 nations for their own growth. Mr. Maheshwari also stressed the value of neutrality, as exemplified in the CRPF, and imparted two life rules to contemplate: (i) Our nurturing of nature shapes our culture, and (ii) The ability to merge determines eventual re-emergence.

Concluding the series, Dr. Balu Kenchappa, Regional Director of Reserve Bank of India, Lucknow, delivered the final address. He delved into the roles played by various nations such as the US, Japan, and China in the global financial landscape, highlighting India's position within this framework of growth. 

The institute and its students expressed gratitude for the invaluable insights shared by the esteemed guests on this momentous occasion. They feel honored to have partnered with G20 University Connect, contributing to the development of future leaders.
