IIT Bombay will open its first overseas sub-campus in the US by 2027 at SUNY Old Westbury, New York. It will be the third Indian IIT abroad after IIT Madras in Zanzibar and IIT Delhi in Abu Dhabi.
Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has announced a US sub-campus. The new sub-campus will open by 2027 at SUNY Old Westbury. It will be located on Long Island in New York.
IIT Bombay signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with SUNY Old Westbury. SUNY stands for the State University of New York. The pact was announced on June 26, 2026 in a virtual meeting.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attended the announcement event. IIT Bombay Director Shireesh Kedare also took part. SUNY Old Westbury President Timothy E. Sams joined the meeting from the US side.
India's Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra was also present. Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi attended as well. This will be the third overseas IIT campus from India.

Programmes Offered at the New Campus
The sub-campus will start with certificate courses in three areas. These are artificial intelligence, sustainability, and clean technology. Full degree programmes will follow in later phases.
IIT Bombay plans undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes for the future. These will cover science and engineering streams. Joint research and faculty exchange are also part of the plan.
How Will Students Apply to the IIT Bombay US Sub-Campus?
Admissions to the US sub-campus will not use JEE Advanced. The campus will target a global student audience. This includes both US and Indian applicants.
Tuition fees and admission rules have not been announced yet. IIT Bombay will release these details in the coming months. Students can track updates on iitb.ac.in.
