Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi have created a novel mobile robot they dubbed "Robomuse 5.0."
New Delhi: Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi have created a mobile robot named "Robomuse 5.0," which can transfer objects from one location to another and carry loads weighing up to 100 kg, according to a statement released by IIT Delhi on Friday.
The robot's design makes it simple to maneuver and control. SVR InfoTech, a company with its headquarters in Pune, has been granted a license to use the Robomuse 5.0 technology thanks to a partnership with the Technology Innovation Hub at IIT Delhi.
The robot started as a project created by IIT Delhi students for the Doordarshan-Robocon (DDR) competition in 2008, though it has since undergone changes. The robot was afterwards placed in the institute's Student Activity Centre (SAC) and allowed to operate on its own for 24 hours before being deemed non-functional.
IIT Delhi: First Version in 2008
Robomuse underwent a number of changes throughout the course of the following few years as part of BTech and MTech projects in response to the input received. The work was carried out under the supervision of SK Saha, from the IIT Delhi's Department of Mechanical Engineering.
SK Saha claimed that Robomuse 5.0 features a modular mechanical design with a zero turning radius and is ROS (Robot Operating System) enabled. Independent control and navigation are consequently simple and easy.
The robot's software has been copyrighted, and the IIT Delhi displayed it at exhibitions and debates earlier this year.
