New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and the Indian Navy have signed an MOU together and taken a major step in promoting innovation and technological progress through their collaboration. 

The signing ceremony between IIT Kanpur and the Indian Navy, which took place at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi, signifies a dedication to collectively advancing technology development, fostering innovative solutions, and undertaking collaborative research and development initiatives.

Rear Admiral K Srinivas, Assistant Chief of Materiel (Dockyard & Refits) representing the Indian Navy, and Prof. S. Ganesh, Director of IIT Kanpur Faculty, formalized this partnership by signing the MoU, solidifying a common vision to harness academic expertise for addressing real-world challenges in the defense sector

With the institution's distinguished reputation for cutting-edge research and technological advancements, they are well-positioned to tackle the critical challenges faced by the Indian Navy, Ganesh said. 

The MOU highlights a structure for academic exchanges and collaborative scientific research, with a specific focus on engineering and defense technologies. This alignment caters to the mutual interests of the Indian Navy and IIT Kanpur. The collaboration strives to strengthen capacity building, tackle challenges at the field level, and boost training effectiveness by implementing initiatives like faculty and guest lecture exchanges.

A central focus of this well-structured partnership involves collaborative Research and Development initiatives, engaging teams from the Centre of Excellence (Marine Engg.) at INS Shivaji, Lonavla, and IIT Kanpur.
