Padma Shri and IIT Kanpur’s former professor H C Verma was the Chief Guest of the Lecture. It was attended by the students of IIT Kanpur’s KV, Shiksha Sopan, and Kanpur University.

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), Department of Physics organised an outreach lecture on December 30, 2023. The theme of the lecture was "Electron’s Spin: A New Way to Develop Efficient Devices,".
The outreach lecture by IIT Kanpur aimed to give knowledge about advanced physical concepts to students. It was organized by the Physics Outreach Team, was conducted as part of the Vidyanjali, a school volunteer programme initiated by the Ministry of Education to facilitate the community and volunteers to connect directly with the government and government-aided schools for sharing knowledge.

Professor Harshawardhan Wanare, physics department head, IIT Kanpur gave the inaugural speech. He urged the attending students to cultivate a sense of curiosity, actively participate in questioning, and nurture a scientific mind-set.
The distinguished speaker for the event, professor Rohit Medwal, head of the opto-spintronics laboratory at IIT Kanpur, explained the concept of electron spin, a fundamental property of electrons, and ways to utilize it to develop efficient memory devices. He elucidated the potential of the new field of spintronics in shaping the future of electronic devices.
Professor Medwal also took the students on a laboratory tour, demonstrating the cutting-edge research facilities in spintronics with the help of the opto-spintronics team members.
The physics outreach lecture not only engaged the students and teachers but also sparked curiosity among the students, motivating them to delve into the captivating realms of physics and scientific research.
