New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has joined hands with ArcelorMittal Luxembourg-based multinational steel manufacturing corporation and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India to establish the First Hyperloop testing center of Asia in India, Chennai.
This collaboration is a blend of foundational steel materials, great engineering, design, and project management expertise for the execution of the Center within the 163-acre Discovery Campus at Thaiyur, on the outskirts of the Cultural Capital of South India-Chennai.

As a part of this partnership, the Hyperloop Technology teams of IIT Madras with TuTr Hyperloop (a start-up that emerged in the institute) and Avishkar Hyperloop (student team) are designing cost-effective technologies created for cargo and passenger transportation on a large scale.
ArcelorMittal is providing about 400 tonnes of steel to fabricate a vacuum tube at the Thaiyur site. Chief Technology Officer at ArcelorMittal, Pinakin Chaubal, is excited about the collaboration, in his words, ‘which will lead to a deep-tech development in India’.
Experienced engineers are posted on the secondment to the Hyperloop team by AMDEC, ArcelorMittal’s design and engineering team to oversee the project progress and provide design and engineering expertise during the stage of the installation process.
Asia's First Hyperloop Facility, a milestone in transformative advancements in the realm of high-speed, sustainable transportation, is expected to be operational by the end of Q1 2024.
