Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras recently conducted a wellness study survey for students, faculty members and staff.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras recently organised a wellness study survey for students, faculty members and staff. This wellness survey was organised on May 4, 2023 An impartial organisation has been chosen to contact these organisations and solicit their opinions. Over 30 counselors conducted the survey by speaking one-on-one with the stakeholders.
The National Health Mission (NHM) of the Tamil Nadu government is overseeing the survey's execution. Director of IIT V Kamakoti opened the programme. This follows a number of suicides that have occurred on the IIT Madras campus this year, the most recent of which occurred in April.
IIT Madras wellness efforts
As an effort to help students and employees who were experiencing stress and sadness, IIT Madras had previously introduced a wellness series and the "Be happy" website. In addition, IIT-M has launched the "Kushal Programme" under the direction of the director, which aims to improve wellbeing among professors and students by fostering a deeper relationship between them.
Regarding this, Kamakoti stated: "We all share responsibility for happiness. The goal of IIT Madras is to promote everyone's well being on campus. One crucial step that has been taken in this direction is the independent wellness survey. I appreciate the NHA and the Tamil Nadu government's assistance in this”.
The high increase in suicides on campus was extensively discussed at a recent IIT Council meeting, which resulted in a number of decisions including the establishment of wellness clinics and the hiring of counsellors.
