Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) conducted its fourth annual convocation online this year owing to the circumstances due to the widespread COVID-19. The annual convocation was addressed by President Ramnath Kovind.
During the convocation of Jawaharlal Nehru University - [JNU], New Delhi, President Ram Nath Kovind said that while tackling the current challenges, one can extract information from the ancient universities of Vallabhi, Vikramshilla, Nalanda, and Takshashila which had set benchmarks of research and teaching.
He further added that present Indian scholars should try to form an original set of knowledge that would be significant in dealing with contemporary global challenges.
Mr. Kovind stated that the ancient system which had various elements of modernity produced notable scholars such as Charaka, Thiruvalluvar, Maitreyi, Gargi, Patanjali, Panini, Chanakya, and Aryabhata, who have made invincible contributions in the fields of social development, grammar, astronomy, mathematics, and medical science, he said.
According to the National Education Policy 2020, it is reproving for the higher educational institutes to lead the endeavor of research in the fields of vaccinology, instrumentation, diagnostics, virology, epidemiology, infectious diseases, and other linked areas, in the prevalent situation of pandemics and epidemics, informed Mr. Kovind.
He said that it would be great if related social issues are studied with a multi-disciplinary approach. And In this venture, universities like JNU should be at the front foot in discovering specific hand-holding mechanisms and promote innovation among the community of students.
The President concluded by saying that the roads, hostels, buildings, and other facilities on the campus are extracted from the Indian heritage, and the institute itself is a pictorial representation of the geography and culture of India at its best.
