Meghalaya Schools Reopen from Sept 21; Classroom Activities Still Restricted

Schools in Meghalaya have reopened partially for classes 9 to 12 from September 21, Monday in which regular classes and classroom activities will not be conducted, only doubt clearing sessions will be taken by the schools.

The Education Minister of Meghalaya, Lahkmen Rymbui informed that Students of classes 9 to 12 can come to school and meet the teachers to clear their doubts related to their studies.

He further added that the government has adjusted the academic events, curriculum, and calendar keeping in mind the COVID crisis. Various restrictions have been freed out of the containment zones in the state following the guidelines by the Ministry of Home affairs.

The schools will continue with their online classes as per the routine until further notice. The education minister also mentioned that schools, colleges, and other educational institutions will remain close until September 30.

The official notice stated that wards who are attending schools for doubt clarifying sessions are required to submit the written consent from the parents. Schools will have to keep their timings flexible, a proper uniform code, and various disciplinary measures to be taken care of.

The notification also specified the requirement of preparing a Continuous Learning Plan (CLP) to ensure all students are learning, continue online or distance learning modes, and develop a 50 percent attendance of the staff.

The Education Department also highlighted the strict rules and regulations which are to be followed by students as well as teachers. This included social distancing protocols, carrying of hand sanitizers, and washing hands frequently among many others.

The COVID scenario in the state is considerably appealing at 2169 active cases. Earlier a source mentioned that the recovery rate of the patients in Meghalaya is standing at 89.1%. Looking at the scenario, the state might decide on the reopening of schools after September 30.
