New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced a new chapter for Class 7 students, titled "A Homage to our Brave Soldiers," in the curriculum for the academic session 2023-24.
The newly introduced chapter focuses on the National War Memorial, discussing its historical importance, significance, and the concept behind it. Furthermore, the chapter acknowledges the heroic sacrifices of Armed Forces personnel for the country after Independence, the official NCERT announcement said.
The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education collaborated with the aim of fostering patriotism, a sense of duty, courage, and sacrifice among school children. Further, the aim was to enhance the involvement of young people in nation-building efforts.
Within the NCERT Class 7 curriculum's National War Memorial chapter, the exchange of letters between two friends serves as a platform for expressing their deep appreciation for the armed forces' sacrifices that have granted them the precious gift of freedom.
According to the Defence Ministry, the authors of NCERT have skillfully captured the profound emotional resonance and connection that arises within the hearts and minds of children when they visit the iconic monument.
Earlier, on February 25, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the National War Memorial in New Delhi to the nation. The minister highlighted that the memorial was established with the intention of instilling a profound sense of sacrifice and national pride among the populace.
He further expressed that the memorial would serve as a tribute to the courageous soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation.
