NHRC Suggested to Replace Regular Exams with Academic Assessments Upto Class 9

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) suggested conducting the academic assessment instead of regular exams for students upto class 9. On Sunday, NHRC's recommendation is based on the advisory on the protection of child rights during the Covid-19 situation.

In an official advisory, NHRC stated that “As per feasibility, exams for students up to class 9 maybe forgone and instead assessments based on academic and extra-curricular performance throughout the year can be conducted.”

Some of the recommendations made in advisory by NHRC are listed below:

• NHRC recommended teaching students up to class 9 in small groups through various mass-media as per the convenience. 
• The advisory also recommends redesigning the existing curriculum in order to recover lost instructional time and syllabus. NHRC made sure online classes are also available for children with disabilities.
• NHRC has recommended providing mid-day meals to the students suffering from malnutrition in government schools. 
• It has also been recommended to include the children residing in social welfare hostels, tribal welfare hostels, etc.
• NHRC called for revision of the data regarding students who have dropped out of schools amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
• It has also issued guidelines to prevent private schools from increasing the fees.
•  As per the guidelines NHRC issued, school management is instructed to be in touch with students having a history of domestic violence to reduce the possibility of child abuse.
