Odisha HC Urges Government to Sort the School Fee Hike Issue

To resolve the ongoing school fee hike issue, the Odisha High Court urged the state government to take the necessary initiative.

The Odisha HC has asked the principal secretary of the School and Mass Education Department to hold a joint meeting of the representatives of teachers, parents and private schools, till the next hearing of the court adjourned on September 8, 2020.

There are three PILs filed at the HC where petitioners are also seeking a complete exemption of tuition fees by the private schools. The principal secretary has to now appraise the HC regarding the outcome of the meeting before the next hearing.

Alongside, Madhya Pradesh HC has also directed the state private schools to collect only tuition fees until the COVID-19 situation stabilizes, as there is huge financial loss faced amid pandemic across the country.

A week ago, the Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Pratap Chandra Sarangi also requested the Odisha's CM to exempt school fees for those on the frontline tackling the COVID-19. He also requested to relax the school fees by 50%.
