NEP 2020 will Bring Focus Back to Learning Based Education, Says PM at School Education Conclave; Check Highlights

PM Modi addresses the two-day School Education Conclave 2020, praising the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Says, the policy will welcome a new era in school education in India.

New Delhi: The Prime Minister today addressed students at the final day of School Education Conclave, about all the changes that NEP 2020 will bring forth.

Meanwhile, teachers were felicitated as part of the "Shiksha Parv" (education festival) celebrated from September 8-25 to adopt the New Education Policy. A number of webinars and conferences were held to discuss the NEP 2020 action plan.

Earlier, PM Modi addressed the National Education Policy 2020 Conclave to announce the policies and the dreams to shape India in the 21st century.  

PM Modi Speaks on School Education in 21st Century: NEP 2020 Highlights 

• National Education Policy is a means to fulfil new ideas, expectations and requirements of India. The policy is framed after the hard labour of people in every sector since the past 4 years.
• Since the last 3 decades, every aspect of living has changed, however, the education policy of India has remained the same.
• As MyGov received more than 1.5 million requests for implementing NEP 2020, it will aid in its effective implementation.
• Mathematical Thinking and Scientific Temperament to bring necessary developments in children. This does not necessitate solving Mathematics problems but welcomes a new thought process.
• Students have to be advanced in 21st Century Skills: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Curiosity, Communication.
• New Age Learning will follow principles of Engage, Explore, Experience, Express and Excel. 
• NEP will reduce syllabus and focus on fundamental things. National Curriculum Framework will make education interdisciplinary and fun.
• The new education policy is student-intensive. The presumed societal notions like History, Geography, Accounts students cannot opt Science is illogical. 
• Today’s truth is, a marksheet is a mental pressure sheet. It does not gauge a student’s mental development. 
• Language is the medium of education and not studies itself. Education needs to be imparted in the language a child understands. 

In praise of the NEP 2020, PM Modi said, “The New education policy will sow the seeds for starting a new era, and will give a new direction to 21st century India. Our work has just begun; National Education Policy has to be implemented equally effectively.”

As per the PM, in a week’s time, the Education Ministry received more than 15 lakh suggestions to implement NEP. 

Earlier, PM Modi had delivered an inaugural address at the ‘Conclave on Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under NEP-2020’ on August 7. 

Education ministers from all states, President Ram Nath Kovind, Governors, Vice-Chancellors of Universities and other senior officials are also taking part in an online conference.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there should be a minimum level of government interference in education and education policy.

Following which, the PM also addressed the Governors’ Conference on the NEP on September 7, 2020. Meanwhile, he also appreciated the framing of preschool education under the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) scheme, as it will help to ensure success in education from the preliminary stages.

The Prime Minister confessed that countries that are showcasing excellent performance through Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) teach children in their native language. 

PISA is the worldwide assessment for school education conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). 

The conclave was also graced by the presence of Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', Education Minister, Sanjay Dotre, Minister of State (MoS) for Education, Anita Karwal, Secretary of Department of School Education and Literacy and K Kasturirangan, Chairperson of the NEP Drafting Committee.
