PU Students Oppose University Plans to Conduct Exams in July

On Tuesday dated 10 June 2020, Panjab University (PU) students posted about hundred Hindi songs, movie dialogues and messages on Twitter with hashtag #puagainstexam.

This was in protest against the decision of Panjab University to conduct end semester exams for final year students in July 2020.

A number of students posted Hindi movie dialogues to question the University’s motives. References from Sanjay Dutt’s movies were used to showcase that Panjab University prioritises money over anything else.

A bunch of PU students tweeted asking the university to take back its decision to conduct exams in July. One of the tweets was like: ‘We are students not laboratory mice to become part of experiments.’

Students flooded Twitter wanting Panjab University to conduct exams on the lines of Delhi University and all the IITs.

The protest continued on Twitter for a couple of hours, where students alleged that the University will conduct exams for procuring funds to pay salaries to its staff.

While some students questioned the exam rationale when syllabi have not been completed, others expressed incapability to attend exams, travelling from red zones.

Punjab University officials, however, informed that the exam schedule refers to tentative dates which will be updated in a short while.

Also, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) members informed VP Singh Badnore, the administrator that conducting exams during this time will only worsen pandemic conditions.
