On Monday, the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha staged a demonstration in Lucknow to support demands for cancelling the examinations in Lucknow University and a fee waiver for the period of lockdown.

The students shouted slogans against the administration of the university and the state government. They even had altercations with the police, who took them into custody.

The leader of the Chhatra Sabha said that the examination should be held according to the guidelines offered by the University Grants Commission and marks should be allotted on the basis of performance in the previous semester.

However, the university officials are not willing to accept their demands. “[They] are putting the lives of students at risk by announcing examinations from July 7,” the leader of the Chhatra Sabha said.

The Youth Congress also led protests, as did various student bodies.
