Sikkim CM Announces the Plan to Set Up Education Reform Commission

The Sikkim government is planning to set up an educational reform commission to draw comprehensive policy in line with the National Education Policy, announced Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang.

On the occasion of Independence Day, CM Tamang hailed the National Education Policy 2020 and expressed that the policy will help in providing overarching vision and comprehensive framework for both schools and higher education sectors.

Along with the educational reform commission, the state is also planning to set up a model school in each of its districts with innovative teaching and learning methodologies. CM said in a statement, "The state government will set up a Sikkim Education Reform Commission to draw a comprehensive and strategy in line with NEP 2020."

Tamang paid tribute to 20 Army personnel killed in a clash with Chinese troops earlier in June this year. He also said that Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Sikkim will be depoliticized and its representatives will be free from any party affiliations.

In continuation of PM Modi's slogan 'Atma Nirbhar', Tamang said that the Sikkim government will endeavor to make Sikkim self-reliant and encourage the people to consume locally produced items. Working in this direction, the state has initiated providing incentives to farmers for milk production and Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cardamom, orange, turmeric, buckwheat, and ginger cultivation.

Governor Ganga Prasad also appealed to people to stay united for the growth and development of Sikkim and the country as a whole.
