'Stay In India' and 'Study In India' programs to encourage students to complete their higher education in India

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, the aspirations of many students looking forward to study abroad this year have been disturbed.

Due to this disruption in academics, the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) has emphasized its efforts on the ‘Stay in India’ program.

The Stay In India program has an objective to assist students who had plans to go abroad for higher studies but have had to stay back due to the emergence of the global pandemic.

Ramesh Pokhriyal, The HRD Minister has established a committee to prepare a well-structured plan inclusive of guidelines and various measures that will help support and empower the Stay in India program.

The chairman of AICTE, Anil Sahasrabudhe stated that the students who left their studies incomplete and returned to India due to the pandemic

The Stay In India program helps these students to complete their higher education in India itself without having to return and resume their education abroad.

The areas which the program will work on include employing international faculty in reputed universities and institutions including IITs, NITs etc. International students offices will be installed in institutes which do not have them already. Joint degrees and multi-disciplinary programs will also be introduced in these institutions to attract international students.

The new National Education Policy (NEP) also focuses on the internationalization of academics and keeping students interested in pursuing higher education in India as well as inviting international students.
