As the Delhi University Admissions Season is underway, a students' organization called Fraternity Movement has appealed to the university to revise and call off the recent hike in admission fee that has been implemented for the students belonging to OBC.
The Delhi University application fee for OBC category candidates had previously been increased for both UG and PG applicants. The organization has urged the students, especially all the OBC candidates to protest against the unjust hike via mail since many applicants come from disadvantaged backgrounds and are unable to pay the hiked fee.
The university campus is currently closed, following the nationwide lockdown, making it impossible and unsafe for students and applicants to engage in any kind of physical protest or campaign. A mass protest in this scenario could have disastrous consequences on the health of participants. This is why the group has called upon the students to participate in a mass campaign through mail in order to pressure the university into rolling back the unjustly hiked fee.
The Fraternity Movement Students’ Group has the objective of questioning and protesting against the application fee structure for OBC candidates. The current charges for EWS, PWD, and ST categories for admission to UG courses is INR 100.
However, DU is charging OBC categories the same application fee as the general category. Similarly, for PG courses EWS, PWD, and ST categories are charged INR 300 and the OBC or general categories are charged INR 700. The organization suggests that this fee hike is unjust and should be rolled back.
