Tamil Nadu: State rejects “Three Language Policy” proposed in NEP 2020; will continue with Two Languages, says CM

Tamil Nadu government showed their negative response over the Centre’s declared New Education Policy 2020. TN Government rejected the particular “Three language formula” as proposed in NEP. The state denies the acceptance of the rule and shall stick to the “two-language policy” as followed since decades.

Chief Minister K Palanswami, during the Cabinet Meeting at the Secretariat, strongly rejected the proposal and stated that there will be no changes in the Two Language Formula. 

He said. “Tamil Nadu will never allow the Centre's three-language policy. The state will continue with it's dual language policy (of Tamil and English). The three-language formula in the NEP is painful and saddening. The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) should reconsider the three-language policy”

K Palaniswmi also appealed that the Centre should allow other states to frame their own guidelines on the Education Policy. This should not disturb the present equilibrium that has been existing since ages.

As per the New Education Policy, students will have to study in their regional language up to class 5. Apart from this, the education system has been reformed to 5+3+3+4, scrapping the previous 10+2 flow of education.
