Teachers may be Called to Schools in Chandigarh from 8 June

Though schools will remain closed, the UT Education Department is considering whether to ask teachers to rejoin school from 8 June onwards. The Department has declared a summer vacation until 7 June. It is considering beginning live classes from schools or distributing video lessons among children from 8 June onwards.

Rubinderjit Singh Brar, the director of school education, said that this would help monitor online teaching and make it easier for teachers to prepare lessons. A final decision is yet to be taken. “It is too early to say anything right now as everything is at discussion level. Once we have some points, we will discuss these with other stakeholders. Including parents, private schools and teachers.” Brar said.

The committee form to take the decision will submit a report on 4 June. On Monday, the UT education department shared a timetable with teachers. The timetable is to be followed by all government schools for online teaching for classes 6 to 8.

The education department also convened a meeting with the new chairperson for CBSE. The agenda was the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). The department has been asked to share within a week its plan for continuing teaching in a way that does not hamper PISA preparations. PISA, which is scheduled for 2021, is expected to be rescheduled.
