New Delhi: Thousand Islands Secondary School in Brockville hosted its 60th Commencement on June 28, 2023 to honour the Class of 2023.
Abbey Pilling was awarded the renowned Principal's Medal for her outstanding academic performance and involvement as the co-prime minister of the student council, a student senator for the UCDSB, and a Relay for Life coordinator.
Additionally honoured with the Character Always Award was Ontario Scholar Pilling. In the autumn, she will enrol at McGill to study biological, biomedical, and life sciences.
Camden Ringer received the Governor General's Academic Medal for having the highest average in the class, with a 95.4% average across all of his Grade 11 and 12 courses on his transcript, and was picked by his classmates to give the valedictory address.
Ringer cautioned his classmates not to let others determine their own genius in his lecture by quoting Albert Einstein. At Carleton University, he plans to pursue an honours degree in criminology and criminal justice.
In addition to receiving numerous honours and scholarships, Corbin Evans was also designated the Ontario Principals' Council Leadership Award winner for his substantial commitment in the community and at his place of education. At Carleton University, he plans to pursue a history honours degree.
The Matheson Award for Leadership was presented this year to Jordyn Brown, an athlete who has participated in almost all school sports. She will enrol in Sir Sandford Fleming College's occupational therapy assistant and physical therapy assistant programmes in the autumn.
Graduates received awards, bursaries, and scholarships of a total of $38,480.
