Recent reports see 34% Increase in international applicants at top Universities

As per recent Data published by Common Application, a popular undergraduate admissions portal, there has been a growth of 34% in international applications at top universities in the USA compared to 2020.

The United States of America has always been a location of choice for students planning to study abroad. Recent factors such as the slackening of covid-19 pandemic restrictions, test-optional admission, and changes in Visa Admission policy are some of the reasons responsible for the increase in the number of applications.

For the past two years, foreign students were unable to apply due to the many restrictions placed on international travel. This is also one of the reasons behind the sudden boost in applications from international students. The country is also focusing on improving infrastructure to appeal to more international students to enrol at top Universities in USA.

Approximately, 1,22,000 students appeared for the SAT Exam in 2021 which is 23% less compared to 2020. Besides the absence of physical test centres, finances, travel and health are some of the reasons for the low number of students.

Around 50,000 applications were submitted at Yale University in 2022. The total number of applications saw an increase of 42% compared to 2020. On the other hand, the admission rate decreased from 6.5% to 4.5%. The University like several other top universities in USA will be following a test-optional admissions path for the next session.

At University of California, Los Angeles, there was an increase of 30% in freshmen applicants from 2020 to 2022. One-fourth out of 27,000 undergraduates at New York University are international students. NYU’s virtual recruiting process during the pandemic resulted in a huge number of international applicants.

Statistics released by Common Application Portal show that international applications increased by 71% at Dartmouth University. Applications from foreign students grew by 11% at Indiana University and by 17% at University of California.
